Threat Assessment Experts Offer Training, Knowledge and Insights at Spring Conference
SACRAMENTO, Calif., March 2, 2015—The Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP), a nationwide non-profit organization focused on reducing the risk of targeted violence, will provide informational sessions, training, networking and experts’ insights at its Spring Regional Conference, March 30-31 in New York City.
The conference is open to all ATAP members as well as law enforcement, prosecutors, mental health professionals, probation and parole personnel, corporate security experts, and others involved in protecting individuals, communities and organizations from the risk of targeted violence.
“This conference offers a unique opportunity for threat assessment professionals to learn about the latest developments and research, explore recent case studies, and hear from leading experts across a variety of disciplines,” said ATAP President Chuck Tobin. “Attendees also say the informal networking and connections they make are as valuable as the formal sessions.”
Program highlights include a keynote address from John J. Miller, deputy commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism for the New York Police Department, a session on sexual assault from a threat assessment perspective, and a Case Study of threats to commit a mass shooting at a U.S. State Department facility.
Dr. Ron Schouten, president of ATAP’s newly formed New England Chapter and director of Law and Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, will present “Dark Creativity and the Insider Threat”..
